10 March 2014

The Finch Arrow, one of Gearbulk's new post-panamax beam Fleximax III vessels, sailed from Lirquen, Chile on Sunday 9th March, 2014 with 70,731 mt of wood pulp on board. This is the largest ever single shipment of wood pulp from Chile and possibly the biggest ever in the world. The wood pulp is bound for Japan (Shimizu), Korea (Onsan, Kunsan and Inchon) and to Changshu, China.

The stevedores in Lirqhuen managed to load an average of 22,600 mt of wood pulp per day, a great achievement.

Bleached Sotwood Kraft Pulp is used for various commodities, including printing and writing paper, coated and uncoated; cardboard; tissue and speciality papers such as labels and food packaging.

70,731 mt of wood pulp will make an awful lot of tissue paper!
