As part of our sustainability strategy, we encourage employees to ‘Give Back’ to society in general and especially to the communities in which we work.
We support involvement in charitable events by matching sponsorship funds raised. Among the charities that have benefited from these efforts are: Walk Now for Autism, Red Cross, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Sailors Society, Heart to Heart Foundation, Mission to Seafarers and Shanghai Healing Home.
Following the natural disasters in Japan, Chile and Manila, many of our local employees helped the communities recover.
Rebuilding in Chile
It only took three minutes on 27 February 2010 for a massive earthquake to wreak devastation across an 800 km radius in Chile and upend the lives of 60% of Chile's population. Gearbulk teamed up with CMPC Celulosa, part of a leading Latin American forest products group and a Chilean customer for more than 30 years. Towns around all three of CMPC's Chilean paper mills were severely affected and many people lost their homes.
Four Gearbulk Teams take on an epic Challenge
On 27 and 28 July four Gearbulk teams took part in Trailwalker, the team challenge of walking 100kms across the South Downs in under 30 hours, teams had to dedicate a lot of time and effort in preparation for the event, not only in training but also in fundraising for the two charities that benefited from the event. Close to £16,000 has been raised by the four Gearbulk teams which will go to Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust, helping people in poverty make a better life for them.
