21 December 2011
Gearbulk's office in Tampa, Florida passed its ISO14001:2004 audit on 20 December allowing Gearbulk to meet its target of seeing all nine of its main offices certified to ISO's environmental standard by the end of 2011.
Protecting the environment and preventing pollution are fundamental elements of Gearbulk's business philosophy. In turn, Gearbulk's environmental management system is a key element of the company's sustainability vision "to create enduring value by taking responsibility for the future through the choices we make today".
ISO14001 covers a wide range of day-to-day office activities including more efficient computer and equipment use and recycling, minimising paper and electricity consumption, ink and toner cartridge disposal, commuting and business travel.
As required by ISO14001, Gearbulk will focus on continuous improvement in 2012 and beyond.
Also planned is extension of the qualification process to Gearbulk's fleet management, where solutions such as handling equipment recycling, fuel consumption improvements and environmentally sound vessel recycling are well underway.
