The Gearbulk owned and managed Petrel Arrow departed Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Limited Yard in Japan on 25 July 2013 and has started her first voyage on the West Coast Americas (WCAM) trade.

The vessel was named by Mrs Anne Drion Bernacca, wife of Davide Bernacca, CEO of Orient Granite Express Fretes Ltda.

As with her predecessors the Petrel Arrow, with box-shaped holds, is ideal for carrying unitised cargo such as aluminium or newsprint, which requires special stowage and handling.

Petrel Arrow has deadweight of 73,000 metric tonnes and therefore her carbon footprint per tonne mile of cargo carried is nearly 50% smaller compared to earlier generations of Gearbulk's fleet.

Petrel Arrow is the third vessel to be built in the Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Limited yard in Japan and joins the Oshima Shipbuilding Co Limited built Fleximax III Japin Arrow in what will be a total of 8 Fleximax III vessels due to be completed by the end of 2014.
